We are delighted to have Professor Margaret Griffiths as our plenary speaker.
Professor Griffiths is the former Acting Public Services Ombudsman for Wales and brings a unique insight to the role and importance of communication in public health services.
About Professor Margaret Griffiths
Margaret Griffiths graduated in law from University College, Cardiff (as it then was) and subsequently completed an LL.M. degree at Cardiff researching and writing a thesis in consumer law.
She has worked in Consumer Law for nearly 40 years, starting her career at Glamorgan County Council before moving into Higher Education. Over the last 30 years she has lectured at both Cardiff University and the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales) specialising in Consumer Law, and for seven of those was Head of the Law School at the University of Glamorgan. Following her retirement in July 2010, she was appointed as an Emeritus Professor of Law. She has also been a Visiting Professor at both the University of Peking in Beijing and Fudan University in Shanghai.
She has undertaken various external appointments during her career including, among others, membership of the Welsh Food Advisory Committee of the Food Standards Agency, Gwent Courts Board and the Legal Services Committee for Wales. She has also taken on many roles relating to legal education, with particular emphasis on the opportunities available to part-time students. A member since her childhood, she is still actively involved in the Guide movement.
Until taking up the role of Acting Public Services Ombudsman for Wales (PSOW), she was an Independent Member of the PSOW’s Advisory Panel and Audit & Risk Committee.
